I think everyone at some point has dreamed of going to New York City. Whether it’s to share a Sex in the City moment with your girlfriends or to sit front row during Fashion Week or just hang out in some of the coolest tourist spots you’ve seen on TV. When I first planned my trip to New York, I was expecting to be mesmerized by the city. I had my Fashion Week tickets in hand and was ready to have my New York City adventures.
I went to New York for a number of reasons, one of them being to celebrate my 30th birthday. I was excited and made all kinds of plans to ring in my big 3-0 with my mom (the best travel buddy). But little did I know that mother nature had other plans for me.
It just so happened that New York was about to get the largest snowstorm of the season, on the same weekend that I was traveling, LUCKY ME! My flight was delayed multiple times and I didn’t make it to New York until 2 days later.
So far, my New York adventures were not starting off on the right foot. I was welcomed to the city with about 8-10 inches of snow, the worst traffic I’ve ever seen in my life, and extremely surged Uber prices. And to top it off, because I was delayed for two days, I missed going to 4 Fashion Week shows and Trevor Noah!
Despite the setbacks, I was determined to make the trip a good one so when it finally decided to stop snowing, mom and I took a walk around Central Park. This was probably the best thing we did all trip. We had snowball fights, made a snowman & snow angles, and we talked about EVERYTHING.
Overall, this New York trip was definitely an adventure but not the kind that I was hoping for. When I got back home I swore I would never go to New York again but someone told me to give it one more chance and go in the Spring/Summer time. I’m still a little hesitant and need to heal the wounds that New York left behind but I think I might reconsider.
