Who knew that Houston was a haven for cat lovers? Renee Reed, the owner behind a new cat cafe concept sure did! Toms and Felines from across Houston flocked to Sharespace in Eado for a special pop-up celebration for Houston’s newest cafe concept, El Gato Coffee Shop.
El Gato Coffeehouse, the first and only cat-themed cafe and adoption center are set to open sometime in early 2017. Partnering with the Houston Humane Society, Renee hopes that by mixing cats + coffee lovers in a shared space outside of shelters will help increase adoptions.
To be honest, I was a little skeptical of the whole idea at first until I went to the pop-up shop and I came face to face with the kittens. It’s so hard not to be happy when a kitten cuddles up next to you. And this, coming from a dog lover!
Sharespace was the purrrrfect place to have this paw-ty! The kittens were surrounded by toys and people wanting to cuddle/play with them. And that’s not all, the humane society was also there to provide information on their services and adoption procedures.
After getting some kitty love — It was time to party next door. The drinks were flowing, the music was bumping and the Paw-ty was ON! Overall, I have to say the idea of having a cat café still sounds a little far-fetched to me, but I hear there is a cat café in Austin called Blue Cat Cafe and they are doing great! So who know, maybe this will become my new hangout spot – although I’m going to have to leave Rocky at home. #SorryBuddy.
