It was in 2010 that by luck, chance or maybe fate I was offered the internship that would change my life forever. Without hesitation I started my journey into television and it was one that I wouldn’t soon forget. I remember being in the newsroom day and night making sure I knew everything about that newsroom. I was determined to get a job afterwards no matter how many people said it was unlikely to happen.
Well, about two months after my internship I GOT THE CALL! It was for a full-time Editor/Associate Producer job. This title never existed before I came along. It was specially created for me because of how much I learned to do during my 10-week internship. I was so happy for the opportunity but at the same time I knew I had so much more to learn. It didn’t take long for me to create another position for myself.
I became the station’s first Multimedia Journalist/Associate Producer. I learned how to shoot, edit, write, make graphics, and update social media sites. Today, I know that these skills are not just for TV but will transcend into other career ventures. My name is Madeline Jeaneth Pena and I am detailed oriented, a team player, bilingual, and hard worker.
