Let me tell you about the power of social media. It was a few weeks ago that I was scrolling through my newsfeed when I stumbled upon a post by Houston personal stylist, Emily Elliott. She was showcasing some beautiful huipiles from my native country of Guatemala. I reached out to her and a few days later we decided to shoot some of the hand woven pieces for my blog. And now here I am, celebrating Guatemala’s Independence Day with artisan fashion I’m sure you’ll love.
These beautiful huipiles are custom hand woven garments that represent the common traditional garments worn by indigenous women in Guatemala and other Central American Countries.
The great thing about these pieces is not only how unique they are but also their versatility. Check out how Emily paired it with flared jeans for a casual look.
The shirt really pops if you pair it with white jeans! I absolutely fell in love with this look!
These pieces were collected by Elizabeth Royce. Her eye for color, designs, structure and her love for Guatemala is what makes her collection of huipiles truly unique.
Thank you to Emily for introducing me to Elizabeth and a huge thanks to Elizabeth for opening up her home to me and for sharing her beautiful collection of huipiles. These huipiles are classic investment pieces and a timeless addition to your wardrobe because of their superior embroidery work. Elizabeth even states that this embroidery work can’t be duplicated and it takes about a year to make, which is what makes them so incredibly unique.
I absolutely loved the way Elizabeth paired her huipil with this gorgeous one-of-a-kind Moroccan necklace.
And to think, this wonderful collaboration came from one Facebook post that I saw a few weeks ago! I am so happy to have met these wonderful ladies and to hear of how much they love Guatemala! If you’d like to know more about these pieces or want more information on where to buy one, please let me know. My dream would be to see every single one of my friends sport a huipil!
Oh, and extra hugs and kisses to Nicole from Lipstick and Brunch for taking these phenomenal pictures!
